MISC:Fiji is made up of 844 islands and islets. The terrain is mostly
mountains of volcanic origin. It has a tropical marine climate, subject
to hurricanes from November to January. The capital city, Suva may get
up to 120 inches of rain a year. Except in Suva, no building is allowed
to tower above the tallest palms. 65% of the land is forested. The
islands' railroads belong to the government owned Fiji Sugar
Corporation. Fiji became independent on 10 October, 1970. Member of UN
since 1970. Member of Commonwealth of Nations.
